What my wife gave me on my birthday

Well she didn’t get me the moon but she did get me a Sky-Watcher ED100 telescope. Its the gift that keeps on giving! I’ve always wanted to see it up close so it really made me super happy when she surprised me with it. Plus the box was huge so I got to unwrap something big which was a really nice feeling, one that I haven’t felt since I was a little kid.

The moon has been hiding from our field of vision for a few days. It was out during the day but not at night so this was the first time since getting the telescope that I got a clear shot at it. The first few pics are kinda blue-ish because the sun was still out somewhat when I started shooting.

The Early Bird…

The Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus). I always try to take photos of these guys at the beach but this is the first time I got a nice one. A big thanks to the pelican dude for being patient and letting me take photos while it watched the sunrise. I tried to keep my distance so I wouldn’t disturb it. Eventually it saw me but it didn’t seem to mind sharing the sunrise with me.

New Year’s Eve 2008

The Sydney skyline just after midnight, taken from the rooftop of our apartment building. Its my first time taking fireworks pics so I had to learn quickly if I wanted to come away with some nice shots. Luckily there’s a 9pm and a midnight fireworks display. I only got one shot that I was happy with during the 9pm fireworks display but I got a few more at midnight.

I’m mostly happy with how it all turned out but hopefully I get some better ones next year. Hopefully I can get a better vantage point as well.

Stay a While

This was shot from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. All this time living in Sydney and I just went to the Botanic Gardens yesterday. My better half was hungry and wanted to go home but I really wanted to stay until I got this shot. When we got home, I ended up not cooking dinner right away because I wanted to review my shots. What a crappy husband

After a few days of non stop rain (which I loved) I finally got a chance to go back to the beach to take photos. I love how there was that guy fishing as I was taking the photo.

A series of sunrise photos taking from Wollongong beach on October 6-7, 2004.

I had to walk a fair bit since I couldn’t park the car near where I had to go. Also, I had to climb up a bunch of dangerous rocks to get up to where I needed to be. And I was so sleepy at the time (since I didn’t sleep all night and I stayed up just for this) so I felt myself swaying from time to time, drifting in and out of microsleeps. I guess I could have killed myself if I fell. I think it was worth it though

I love how that boat is in all the photos.

Infernus II

This was at one of the beach areas in Waikiki in Hawaii. I woke up in the middle of the night and went for a walk. Right after this shot was taken, my Canon PowerShot G2 got wet by the incoming waves and we had to send it to Chicago (I think) but they did an excellent job fixing it and they were quick with it too so I wasn’t without my camera for too long.
